Battery Storage in McKinney
A home battery keeps your lights, fridge and Wi-Fi running when the grid goes down, and lets you use your own solar power after sunset. We plan where it goes and how it connects, so it is safe for everyone in your home.
What a Home Battery Does for You
A battery stores the extra power your panels make during the day. In the evening, or when the utility loses power, your home draws from that stored energy instead. Most systems switch over on their own in a moment, so you may not notice the outage at all.
A battery is a lot of stored energy sitting next to your home, so placement and wiring matter as much as the brand. We start every battery job with safety: where it can live without overheating, how far it sits from doors and windows, and how it ties into your electrical panel so nobody is at risk during an outage, including utility line workers.
Batteries pair best with solar. If you do not have panels yet, our Solar Panel Installation page covers how we size a system with storage in mind from the start.
What Our Battery Installation Includes
- A load review
- We go through what you want powered during an outage. Running a fridge, lights and a furnace fan needs a very different setup than running the whole home, including the AC.
- Safe placement
- We pick a spot that meets fire code clearances and stays out of direct afternoon sun. North Texas summers are hard on battery chemistry, so a shaded wall or a garage with airflow often makes sense.
- Proper backup wiring
- We install the transfer equipment that separates your home from the grid when power drops. That keeps your battery from sending power back down the line while crews are working on it.
- Permits and labeling
- We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and add the required warning labels and shutoff markings. Firefighters and future electricians will know exactly what is on your wall.
- A walkthrough before we leave
- We show you the app, the shutoff and what normal looks like. You will know how to check your charge level and what to do if something seems off.
Signs Battery Storage Is a Good Fit
Outages leave you scrambling
If storms or grid strain have left you without power and worrying about food, medical devices or a home office, stored power covers those hours quietly.
Your panels make more than you use
When your solar output peaks at midday and your usage peaks in the evening, a battery lets you keep that power instead of sending it out.
You are using a portable generator
Fuel, extension cords and carbon monoxide risk are real concerns. A battery runs silently with no exhaust and no cords through a cracked door.
Someone at home relies on power
An oxygen concentrator, a refrigerated medication or a sump pump are all good reasons to have backup you can count on.
You are planning new solar anyway
Adding storage during installation is usually simpler than coming back later, since the wiring and permit can be handled together.
What Affects the Cost of Battery Storage
The biggest driver is the amount of stored energy you want, followed by what your home's wiring needs to carry it safely. We set a price only after seeing your panel and the spot where the battery would go. Your written estimate lists each item, so nothing new appears at the end.
Storage capacity
Backing up a few essential circuits takes less battery than powering the whole home for a day or more. More capacity means more units.
Your electrical panel
An older or full panel may need a subpanel for backed-up circuits or an upgrade to handle the new equipment safely.
Location and wiring distance
A longer run from the battery to the panel, or a wall that needs extra protection, adds materials and labor.
Existing solar or new
Adding a battery to a system that is already running can mean extra equipment so the two work together. Installing both at once often keeps that simpler.
How a Battery Job Goes
- 1
A conversation by phone
We ask about your home, your current system if you have one, and what you want to keep running. That tells us what to look at on site.
- 2
On-site assessment
We look at your electrical panel, the wall space and the path for wiring. We note anything in your panel that needs attention first and explain it in plain terms.
- 3
Written plan and permit
You get a written breakdown of the equipment and work. Once you are ready, we file the permit and coordinate with your utility on interconnection.
- 4
Installation day
Most battery installs take a day. We shut power off at the panel for part of it, so we will tell you when, and we keep the work area taped off from kids and pets.
- 5
Inspection and handoff
After the city inspection passes and the utility gives approval, we turn the system on, test a simulated outage with you and clean up the site.

Battery Storage Questions
Is it safe to have a battery on the side of my house?
Yes, when it is installed correctly. Modern home batteries have built-in thermal monitoring and shutoffs, and we follow fire code spacing from doors, windows and vents. We also make sure the shutoff is labeled and easy for you or a firefighter to reach.
How many hours of backup will I get during an outage?
That comes down to which circuits the battery is feeding. A fridge, lights, internet and a few outlets draw far less than central air, so an essentials setup lasts much longer than whole-home backup. When your panels recharge the battery in daylight, many systems can keep essentials going through longer outages.
My home has had panels for a few years. Will a battery work with them?
Usually it will. The key pieces are your inverter and your electrical panel, so we look at both on the first visit to see how storage can tie in. If your setup needs an extra component to make the two talk to each other, we tell you what it is and why before you commit to anything.
Will a hot garage hurt the battery?
Heat shortens battery life and can cause the system to limit its output. We look at temperature, airflow and sun exposure before choosing a spot, and sometimes an outside shaded wall is the better choice.
Do you work outside McKinney?
Yes. We install battery storage in nearby towns such as Allen, Frisco, Prosper and Celina. Ask when you call and we will let you know.
